The "Remember?" desk accessory is where you view your schedule, create occasions, and in general spend most of your time using this package.
Opening the Desk Accessory
Select Remember? from the 'apple' menu at the left side of your menu bar. If you don't see it, re-check the installation instructions in the previous chapter.
You can also open "Remember?" from the pop-up alert window (see the Pop-Up Alerts chapter.)
Automatic Startup Checks
Every time that you turn on or Restart your Mac, "Remember?" is automatically opened to check for occasions that need your attention. You will probably notice that the Remember? menu appears on your menu bar shortly after the Mac starts up.
If there are occasions you need to see, "Remember?" opens your default windows. If they do not view far enough into the future to show the next important occasion, an Of Interest window so you can see it.
If the Remember? menu disappears after a few seconds, no important occasions were found.
If you prefer, you can disable the startup checks, or perform them only once each day (see the Preference set "When you Start your Mac".)
But I Want it Open All the Time
System 7 users can force "Remember?" to remain after startup. Open the Apple Menu Items folder inside your System Folder. Click on "Remember?" and select Make Alias from the Finder's File menu. Drag the alias into the Startup Items folder, also inside your System Folder.
You may also want to turn off the Preference for startup checks.
Closing Windows
Press COMMAND-W or click in the standard close box to close the front window. "Remember?" quits automatically when its last window is closed.
Use COMMAND-OPTION-W to close an Occasion window and automatically save your changes.
Cease and Desist
Most time consuming operations can be interrupted by pressing the standard Mac cancel key: COMMAND-. (period)
About Remember?...
Select this item in the Remember? menu to see which version of the package you are using. Oh yeah, and it also mentions something or other about sending in your Shareware fee :)
Exit, Stage Right
Select Quit from the Remember? menu or press COMMAND-Q to exit from the desk accessory.
Shutdown oddity
System software versions prior to 7.5 incorrectly assume that desk accessories can have only one window. As a result, when you shutdown your Mac while Remember? is open they close the front window and wait for it to Quit. If there are more windows, you must close them yourself or press COMMAND-Q to finish the job. This bug appears to be fixed in System 7.5.
System 6 Multi-Finder users will also notice that the Quit menu item in the File menu is disabled for "Remember?". Use Quit in the Remember? menu instead.
the Remember? Extension Startup Icon
While your Mac starts up you should see one of these icons at the bottom of the screen:
 
The first two are in color if your Mac supports it.
(1) 'Remember? Extension' has loaded successfully and will open the desk accessory for perform its startup check.
(2) 'Remember? Extension' has loaded successfully but startup checks will not be performed (you either selected Once a Day checks and they were already done, or you held the MOUSE BUTTON down during startup to suppress them.)
(3) Something has gone wrong. The extension may have failed to load or detected some other error. You are notified of the exact problem when startup is complete.
If you suspect the Extension is causing system problems, you can temporarily disable it by holding down these keys during startup: COMMAND, SHIFT, OPTION and the MOUSE BUTTON.
If you do not see one these icons during startup, you may not have installed the file 'Remember? Extension'. It is required if you want startup checks or pop-up alerts for your occasions.
